SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister, Hamlet Dohling said that he will seek a report on the performance of the Shillong Public Transport System (SPTS) buses and maxi-taxis.
Speaking to reporters, he said several complaints were made about the high-handedness of the drivers who charged the passengers rates that are beyond the original fare for any distance travelled.
He added no deadline will be issued for the report as to allow the department concern to come up with a proper report and subsequently assess the situation.
“Maxi cabs should work for the interest of the public. The drivers of the maxi cabs should not take advantage of passengers. The same rate should apply for both day time and night time,” he said.
Dohling also said persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens should not be charged.
