Man injured after contact with live wire
NONGPOH: A person received serious injuries after he was exposed to high voltage inside the EPIP-II Substation, Narbong, Byrnihat at 2 pm on Friday. The victim identified as Payas Arengh (32) was working inside the substation when he came in contact with high voltage. Arengh was rushed to Bethany OPD at Byrnihat but later was referred to higher medical institution in Guwahati. He is from Dangar village of Mawsynram. Ri Bhoi Police on receiving information about the incident rushed to Bethany OPD and help in shifting the injured person to Guwahati, the case is still under investigation.
Nurse’s Guild condoles Soro’s death
SHILLONG: The Nurse’s Guild of Meghalaya, Shillong expressed condolences at the sudden demise of Leiyaton Soro. The association also condemned the act of brutality and expects that the government will take strong action against the culprits In a statement on Friday, the association expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. “We request that the government to take stern action against the culprits, bring them into book and when arrested they should not be released on bail and award life imprisonment or death penalty according to law,” the statement said.
Lt. General meets CM
SHILLONG: Lieutenant General D.S. Ahuja, AVSM, General Officer Commanding 101 Area called on Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, at his office on Friday.During the interaction, the General Officer discussed a number of issues with the chief minister such as to include Civil-Military liaison, Internal Security, Disaster Management, Intelligence Sharing and issues related to defence land encroachment. In addition a large number of issues related to welfare of ex-servicemen were discussed. Ahuja assured the chief minister of Army’s assistance to any situations demanding urgent response.
State-level exhibition gets underway
SHILLONG: A seven-day state level exhibition kicked off at 5th Ground of J.N. Sports Complex, Polo on Friday. The exhibition is being sponsored under National SC-ST Hub of Ministry of MSME and organised by the Department of Commerce & Industries. W. Shylla, MLA and Chairman, Meghalaya Commission on Resource Mobilization (MCRM) attended the event as chief guest. Speaking at the programme, Shylla said that the exhibition will provide a much needed platform for the existing and emerging entrepreneurs and artisans of the State to showcase their products and further increase their business prospects to greater heights. While enlightening the gathering about the SC-ST scheme of the MSME, he said that the Hub will provide professional support to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs to fulfill the obligations under the Central Government procurement policy Order 2012, and adopt applicable business practices and leverage the Stand Up India initiative. Among the dignitaries present on the occasion include M.R. Synrem, Commissioner and Secretary, Commerce and Industries, besides officials from various central and state departments.
