SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) appealed to the state government to relax the curfew hours and allow farmers and traders to resume business.
Speaking to reporters after an emergency meeting of the party on Sunday, member of HSPDP Witting Mawsor said, “We urge the government to relax the curfew as Iewduh is known to be the rice bowl of the Khasi-Jaintia Hills. It has affected the farmers.”
Demanding eviction of the residents from Punjabi Lane so that the area can be used for commercial purposes, Mawsor said the locality is congested and unhygienic.
“The government has to take a wise decision on this so that no constraints arise later,” he added.
Urging the government to take measures to arrest the assailants from Punjabi Lane who assaulted the three Khasi boys, the party also condemned the assault and conveyed their wishes to the family.
“It is up to the police department to investigate the matter,” Mawsor said.
