SPTS buses off the road

SHILLONG: After the assault of Khasi youths at Punjabi Lane, the SPTS buses did not ply leading to inconvenience of commuters.
Though there was no official announcement of any strike by SPTS bus drivers, it was learnt that the buses will be off the road for a week.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner P.S Dkhar said he had taken up the issue with Urban and Municipal officials to follow up the matter.

No compromises, only FIR

SHILLONG: Police will not encourage compromise between the affected parties in the wake of Thursday’s incident of assault at Punjabi Lane.
DGP S.B Singh said instructions have been given to all police stations to register FIRs and not to encourage compromises between the affected parties.
As far as the assault case at Punjabi Lane is concerned, both the parties had initially compromised at Cantonment Beat House.
However, seven hours later, there was a large gathering of protesters at Motphran who wanted the arrest of the accused.
