SHILLONG: Delegates from four villages of Hingaria, Huroi, Lahalein and Lejri villages, East Jaintia Hills led by Khliehriat MLA and Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla met the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to apprise him of underdeveloped condition in the villages bordering Bangladesh particularly the roads.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after meeting the CM, Kynjaimon Amse said the main concern of the residents of the village was pending road projects of Rymbai-Borkhat-Jalalpur road and Borkhat-Sonapur road.
He said the villages were having a population of more than 5000 people who mainly survive on their sale and cultivation of betel-nuts and betel-leaf.
Amse said the villages were connected by Borkhat-Sonapur road which is approximately 60 kms and out of this 10 kms have been blacktopped way back in the year 2011.
He said the road was not motorable and in deplorable condition characterized with mud and water.
Two proposals made the PWD(R) Khliehriat NEC division for improvement of the Borkhat-Sonapur road but were dishonoured by the Government of Meghalaya, Amse asserted.
He also brought up the Rymbai-Borkhat-Jalalpur road project by the North Eastern Council worth more than Rs. 97 crore which has been pending till date since the year 2011.
“The two main projects are pending with the Government of Meghalaya,” he said.
Amse said, “The CM has been kind enough and assured us that the road will be taken on priority. And he said he will be discussing the matter with the NEC itself which will a have meeting in the next few weeks.”
On the other hand, Amse also submitted a memorandum with regard to villages in Narpuh Elaka, East Jaintia Hills district, namely Umstain, Tongseng, Sonapyrdi, Lum Myrli, Chymplong, Kuliang, Borsora, Pyrtakuna, Umkiang, Dona Umbluh, Dona Skul, Dona Bhoi and Ratacherra which are suffering from irregular and un-explained power cut for the past many years.
The delegation urged the state government to take corrective measures to ensure that the all villages in Meghalaya including the above mentioned villages receive regular supply and uninterrupted supply of electricity just like in Shillong.
He has also appealed to the state government to find ways and means to improve the service of the MECL in the above stated villages.
