SHILLONG: Union minister for DoNER, Dr Jitendra Singh has stated that the central government will promote Behdeinkhlam festival.

Jitendra Singh  who attended the last day of the annual Behdeinkhlam festival  in Jowai,  told  reporters that the Centre  would promote the festival physically , financially and also  by providing logistic support.

Earlier, he said that the DoNER Ministry had started the process of having a rotational camp Secretariat in all the eight North Eastern states so that people from the region did not need to travel all the way to Delhi or the  DoNER headquarters

“The Ministry is at their door step and we are standing with people of the region in times of their merry making as well as in the time of need,” he said.

Claiming that the BJP-led NDA Government in the Centre has accorded a high priority to make this region better, he stated that the Union Government had not focused only on development of the region but on facilitating the region’s cultural and social growth.

He further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken personal interest in development of the Northeast and visited the region as many as almost 30 times in just 4 years which is a record itself

“His visits are much more that compared to any union minister in past 65 years,” he said.

Reacting to a query, he also said that the law and order situation in the region had changed for better in the last  4-5 years.

“North East can draw the comparison not only in law and order but even in the case of security and in the terms of increased  connectivity,” he added.
