Prohibition of sand mining in WKH

NONGSTOIN: The District Magistrate of West Khasi Hills has imposed an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting sand mining in and around the Nongkhnum river island without forest clearance from the Centre.
The order said sand mining and removal of sand from the river beds and banks in and around the island would not be allowed without the approval from the Ministry of Environment and Forests or the State or District Environmental Impact Assessment Authority or licence from a competent authority.
This order will come into force with immediate effect and until further order.
