NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma over irregular funding of the ongoing Nongstoin Urban Water Supply Scheme.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, the NPP MLA said erratic funding is a major setback to the progress of work and if the trend continues, the project will take decades to be completed.
The existing water supply system in the town is decades old and the quantity and quality of the water supplied in localities from the treatment plant is not within the standard limits. “Moreover, the growing population in the town area of Nongstoin has aggravated the water supply situation,” the MLA said.
Byrsat added that during his meeting with the chief minister, he urged to sanction Rs 30 crore so that 75 per cent of the work can be completed and water can be supplied to the crisis-hit villages in Nongstoin.
The MLA also met PHE Minister Samlin Malngiang and apprised him of another project, the Marskuin Combine Water Supply Scheme, at Marskuin and 15 adjoining villages.
During the meeting with the minister and the officials, they have agreed to sanction Rs 11 crore to the scheme where 15 villages will benefit.
