JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner RS Rapthap held a meeting with BSF and NBCC officials along with members of the Coordination Committee on International Border (CCIB) in Jowai on Wednesday.
The meeting centered on discussions related to various issues such as border fencing which is still pending in areas like Nongjri, Dawki, Muktapur and Jaliakhola.
CCIB leaders comprising of representatives from the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), the Federation of the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) along with land owners registered their stand against border fencing.
“We demand that re-alignment and proper identification of the International border pillars be done before the fencing works in the area. The fencing works should also take place right from the zero point after the proper demarcation of the border”, CCIB Secretary, Kmen Myrshiang said after the meeting.
The meeting has also agreed for another joint inspection scheduled for September.
“As our Deputy Commissioners are being transferred every two to three years, the present DC has to be satisfied. So we have agreed to conduct a joint inspection to be scheduled during the month of September”, Myrshiang added.
