JOWAI: Five months back the Jowai-Karompani inter-state road connecting Dimahasao District and other parts of Assam had been repaired under the supervision of a local contractor but is now in a pathetic condition due to sub-standard work, alleged the residents of Iooksi and Saphai village in West Jaintia Hills.
The residents also stated that the thickness of the black topping had been made very thin and speculated that the contractor had done the repair work not for the benefit of the people but for his own selfish gains.
The PWD officials have failed to check the sub-standard repair work because the contractor is a close relative of the former PWD minister and a present cabinet minister.
“During the rainy seasons, vehicular movement is very difficult due to potholes all along the road right from Pyntei village till Saphai village”, said N. Sutnga who is a resident of Iooksi village.
The residents of the area wanted the road to be repaired properly as it is one of the most important routes for tourists to reach Jaintia Hills from North Assam.
