SHILLONG: KHADC chief executive member P N Syiem is keeping a close watch on the developments following the demand of 16 MDCs, including those from the PDF, to remove him from the top post.
The 16 MDCs who met the chief minister on Friday urged him to call a special session as the CEM has lost majority.
The MDCs submitted the memorandum to the chief minister since the minister in-charge of district council affairs James Sangma was not in station.
When contacted on Saturday, Syiem said he was keeping a close watch on the situation. “I do not want to make any comments but the situation can change,” the CEM said.
He added that the demand of the MDCs is still pending with the chief minister.
The MDCs had earlier questioned the style and functioning of the CEM.
The MDCs who are demanding the ouster of Syiem included four members from NPP, five from UDP, three each from HSPDP and PDF and one Independent.
Sources said the sudden move to oust the CEM may be due to his plan to get a common candidate to contest the Ranikor by-poll against NPP candidate MM Danggo.
