SHILLONG: The Home Department has already sent several names to the UPSC for the appointment of the new DGP.
The current DGP, SB Singh, who was given three more months’ extension, will retire on July 31.
An official source on Sunday said after the department had sent the names last week, the UPSC will send three shortlisted names for the appointment of new DGP by the state government.
The state security commission recently met to shortlist the names for the appointment of DGP.
However, the July 3 order of the Supreme Court made it clear that the states will have to send the names of eligible candidates to the UPSC for appointment.
The order said the UPSC in turn will send to the state government three names and the government is free to choose the new DGP from these names.
The Apex Court also prohibited appointment of acting DGPs by the states.
