SHILLONG: NPP has written to all the coalition parties in the MDA to support Chief Minister Conrad Sangma who will contest the Tura by-poll.
NPP state president WR Kharlukhi said on Saturday he had written to the coalition partners on Thursday and hoped that there will be a positive response from them.
NPP is seeking support from BJP, UDP, NCP, PDF and HSPDP.
Kharlukhi said though PDF and HSPDP do not have presence in Garo Hills, their participation by way of campaign for the Tura by-poll is necessary.
The UDP central leadership has already extended support to Sangma while the party’s South Tura unit wanted to field a candidate.
However, the UDP leaders said the issue will be settled as the name of Conrad to lead the MDA was proposed by the party during the formation of the government.
The BJP central leaders also wanted the state leadership to support the chief minister.
In the February 27 Assembly polls, the BJP candidate Billykid Sangma came second.
The main rival Congress will put up a candidate in the by-poll, while it is yet to be known whether the former MLA John Leslee Sangma will seek re-election.
