MAWKYRWAT: Unidentified goons on Tuesday attacked the office of the Atomic Mineral Division (AMD) for Exploration and Research at Wahkaji village, South West Khasi Hills and assaulted two scientific officers and an assistant besides torching vehicles of the Division.
South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, HG Lyngdoh informed that the incident took place at 4 pm and a group of around 40 unidentified youths ransacked the office of the AMD.
The two scientific officers, Satyander Saurav (29) and Srinjoy Mukherjee (31) sustained minor injuries while their assistant, Sauman Das (31) was seriously injured.
However, the miscreants spared the 12 local employees of the Division.
The Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo said all the three injured persons were immediately shifted to Wahkaji Primary Health Centre for treatment and then they were referred to Mawkyrwat Community Health Centre (CHC).
“Later at 10:15 pm, they were shifted to Shillong for better medical treatment.
While two of them received minor injuries, one sustained head injuries, but all the three are stable,” Laloo said.
The SP informed that after assaulting the staff, the miscreants also torched one Mahindra Jeep and damaged one Bolero.
“They also destroyed one laptop and mobile phones belonging to the injured persons,” Lyngdoh said.
The SP, however, downplayed the incident and said the situation is normal and police personnel have been deployed in the office.
“A case has been registered and investigation is on to find out the perpetrators,” the SP added.
