SHILLONG: There is another facet of the petrol bomb attack on the office of the MPSC secretary’s office that lays bare the decadence in society.
Drug addiction has subsequently led to an increase in crime in the city and recent incident is n example of this. Two drug addicts were used for throwing the petrol bomb inside the MPSC office recently.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak on Thursday told reporters that the two addicts were desperate for money and they could do anything for money.
When asked about the recent trend where anti-social elements are targeting addicts for nefarious activities, the SP said it is dangerous and police will have to be more careful.
He, however, said drug addicts cannot be blamed for any crime as they are being used, putting pressure on police and other stakeholders to act more responsibly, besides taking care and rehabilitating them.
On Wednesday night, Shillong police arrested a few people from a locality under the jurisdiction of Lumdeingjri police station and seized more than 12 gm of heroin.
The district police chief said the Anti-Narcotics Force of East Khasi Hills police was cracking down on peddlers in the beginning of the year but “the cops had to pay attention to the Assembly election and again police got busy due to the recent law and order problems in Shillong”.
With the law and order improving, police are again concentrating on seizing drugs and catching peddlers in the city.
