HYC Nongstoin circle president Shemphang Lyngdoh on Sunday told media persons that the council learned that the office of the Directorate of Field Publicity located at Ladweitang in Nongstoin would be shut down from July 31. It was set up in 1999.
Shemphang said with the shutdown of the office, all information and various central schemes for the people of Nongstoin would be stopped.
“The people of West Khasi Hills have benefitted from the Department of Field Publicity as the office conducted tour programme especially to rural villages and informed all the policies and flagship programmes of the central government,” he added.
HYC has also written to the regional office in Guwahati over the decision to shift the office to Jowai and urged the MLA of Nongstoin, Macmillan Byrsat, to take up the issue with the chief minister. Byrsat has assured the council that he will look into the matter.
