TURA: Several police personnel in Garo Hills who were deputed for election duty during the state polls held in February, this year, have reportedly not been paid their dues even as some of them have once again been re-assigned election duty for the upcoming by-poll to South Tura.

According to sources, over twenty personnel from the state force’s Meghalaya Police Radio Organization (MPRO) were taken out of their daily duty and placed for election work during the February polls.

While these men completed their duty and were later discharged to join their respective places of posting, they never received the Travel Allowance (TA) of seven thousand rupees they were each supposed to get for their election work.

According to some of the aggrieved personnel, they had provided their bank account numbers to the officers after being told they would receive an advance TA, but no money was put into their accounts.

There is apprehension among the personnel that a similar situation could befall them once again since they have been enlisted for election work for the Tura by-poll.
