Nongpoh: The Khasi Students Union, Northern Border Area expressed their disappointment towards the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in a press release on Monday.
The union claims that the agency is still officially displaying the old colonial name instead of Sohra as evident from the signboard at Jorabat in Ri Bhoi District.
The statement stated that the agency is defying the order of the government who had earlier changed Cherrapunjee to Sohra as per the Gazette Notification of the Meghalaya Government vide ‘No.HPL.539/81/32  dated 18th  May 1982’.
The release issued by the union also stated that this kind of wrong information not only misguides the citizens but clearly indicates that NHAI has no respect for the state government.
In this connection, the union had also submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi on Monday urging her to take necessary actions to change the signboards.
