SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s  Director General of Police , SB Singh who retired from the services on Tuesday asked the State police not to lower its guard and keep performing besides serving the people of the state.

Talking to media persons on the last day of his services, Singh  said that Meghalaya Police had  been in the thick of things whether it was combating militancy or tackling law and order situation.

“The Meghalaya Police has come a long way and it has taken on militancy and also achieved tremendous success,” Singh said

Singh who is an IPS officer from 1986  batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre,  also said that he would now give more time to his family.

It may be mentioned that Dr Swaraj Bir Singh   was given extension of three months after his superannuation earlier this year.

Asking the young police officers to keep performing and live up to the expectations of the police, he asserted that the battle with militancy had been  fought from a very long time and police could contain the militants with the combination of different forces of the police including SOT, SF-10,  senior officers and the  young officers who participated in the operations against the militants

When asked if the militant groups including HNLC  are trying to re-group, the  outgoing DGP said that some elements of HNLC were staying in Bangladesh but they were ineffective and they had been contained

Stating that Bangladesh Government does not support any unlawful activities, he said that  the activities of HNLC was not of any concern.

On modernization of  the state  police, Singh said that Meghalaya Police had more mobility now and there was a lot of difference as far as communication was concerned. He, however,  stressed on the need to have more modernization as far as investigation process was concerned.
