SHILLONG: Indian Marathon runner Nitendra Singh from Uttaranchal who have participated in Rio Olympics, 2016 is set to participate in the Shillong Run -10 km on August 11 at Parking Lot, Polo.
This was informed by Rev A.C Lymba while addressing a press conference here in Shillong Press Club on Thursday.
He said the Shillong Run was the eighth edition which over the years has helped spread awareness about the disabilities and also highlight the learning spirit of the children.
The Social and Economic Life Development Department, KJP Synod Sepngi through the Agency for Sustainable Development Initiatives in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Shillong will organise Shillong Run.
Organised under the theme “Run with different abilities” the run is held with an objective to create an awareness programme on mainstreaming Persons with Disabilities in the society and to address the issues of problems faced by the PWDs.
The run is also to raise fund for the projects of the Synod established for the welfare of the PWDs such as Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School in Sanshnong, Mairang, Community Based Rehabilitation Programme in Mairang and Rev Amirkha School for Disabled, Mawlai.
The registration fee for students is Rs 100 and for others is Rs 200 and free registration is for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The organisers informed that the age limit to participate in the run is seven years and above.
