SHILLONG: Former leader of the disbanded ANVC-B, Bernard N Marak has decided not to contest the upcoming  South Tura by-poll and  instead support  the ruling NPP candidate, the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

Bernard N Marak stated  that   his stand in past elections was always focused on grassroots people’s problems which need immediate rectification at GHADC level  and therefore, he would contest GHADC election.

Terming Conrad a capable leader and fit to the Chief Minister, he added that even if he contest and win, he cannot be the CM.

“Conrad Sangma is in a better position to rectify the errors made by the Congress leaders in the past,” he said

He also alleged that Congress played against people’s trust  and Congress vote bank was undefeatable in Tura until it was divided into North Tura and South Tura under the leadership of late P A Sangma.

“He knew the secret of Congress so he carefully divided the Tura constituency so that both seats remained reserved. Knowing these facts, I can only support Conrad Sangma with hope that he finishes what his late father started,” he said
