UDP youth wing meets Tynsong over NRC
SHILLONG: The youth wing of the United Democratic Party on Thursday met Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to discuss about the concerns in the state arising out of the publication of draft NRC list in Assam. During the meeting, the youth wing put forward a few suggestions and apprised Tynsong about the situation and urged the government to be on alert.
SC, ST entrepreneurship programme held in Williamnagar
TURA: In an attempt to boost the promotion of SC and ST entrepreneurs in the district, a one day awareness programme was organised under the National SC/ST Hub Scheme by the District Commerce and Industries
Centre at Williamnagar in East Garo Hills.
Speaking on the occasion, local MLA Marcuise N Marak who was the Chief Guest on the occasion motivated the participants and encouraged them to take up entrepreneurship in order to remedy the rising problem of unemployment. He also informed that the Government of India has launched many employment schemes and this is one such scheme where entrepreneurs should reap the benefits. Earlier, MDC Williamnagar Constituency and GHADC Chairman, Denang T Sangma urged the participants to take up micro enterprises as a means of livelihood.
The programme was chaired by DCIC General Manager MR Marak who spoke about entrepreneurship and the various opportunities the department provides for the people. The programme also witnessed interactive sessions which were presented by DCIC officials.
FKJGP asks govt to develop Mawshynrut sub-division
NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) Mawshynrut Circle, have demanded for the state government’s intervention regarding the development of the Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division. In the press statement issued on Thursday, Tanbor Dkhar, President of FKJGP Mawshynrut Circle said that the Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division was inaugurated on July 10, 2017 but is still lacking in many aspects. He stated that no MCS officers have been posted in the sub-division even though there are two vacancies – B.D.O and E.A.C. “At present, the Sub Divisional Officer of Mawshynrut Civil Sub Division KL Nongbri is also the Deputy Commissioner in charge of West Khasi Hills and is stationed in the District Headquarter. As a result, many people find it difficult to meet him,” Dkhar said.
The Federation stated that during the past few months, the only MCS officer stationed at the sub-division – R Brahma, MCS, EAC had been transferred with no one to serve as a replacement. Dkhar also stated that ever since E. Wanniang, Doctor in-charge of Riangdo CHC left for further training, Dr. Sangma had taken over the post. He also added that people have been sending in complaints regarding the inefficiency in the CHC. The FKJGP said it is hoping that the state government and the Chief Minister will bring about the development in Mawshynrut area.
NGH rape accused transferred to Tura jail, interrogation underway
TURA: The rape accused who was arrested by North Garo Hills Police for committing the crime against his own 10-year- old step-daughter at Nameram Village under Kharkutta police station has been transferred to the Tura District Jail. Jaseng D Shira (36) was caught red handed by villagers while he was molesting his minor step-daughter. Shira was given a sound thrashing before being handed over to the Dainadubi police outpost on Tuesday. Following his arrest, Shira was forwarded on the same day to a court in Tura and a case under POCSO was registered against him. Earlier quoting the victim, police had revealed that this was not a one off incident and that the accused had raped the victim on numerous occasions. Residents from the area had also revealed that Shira used to take advantage of the mother’s absence and regularly raped the victim. However, while interrogation by police is currently underway, Shira is yet to confess to the crime. “He has admitted that he used to regularly molest the victim. But he is yet to confess to the actual rape. We will find out more over the course of the interrogation,” said an officer in charge of the investigation.
Dancers’ association to organise charity programme
SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya Dancers Association (AMDA) will organize a charity programme, Salaam India on October 6 to recognize the efforts of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the society. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Kitbok Thabah said the previous edition of Salaam India was a tribute paid to soldiers and this time the organizers want to recognize the ‘hard work, dedication of the PWDs.’ Around 18 PWD achievers who have excelled in the field of academics will be awarded with a certificate and trophy.
23-year-old suffers burn injuries in Lawsohtun
SHILLONG: A 23-year-old resident of Lawsohtun Block 3 suffered burn injuries when a stove burst while he was trying to light it. RJ Iawphniaw sustained 40 percent burn injury and has been admitted at Civil Hospital. The accident happened in the afternoon due to leakage of kerosene.
Laishnong Higher Secondary School gets new building
Nongbareh: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) handed over a new school building constructed under the Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya Project to the school managing committee of Laishnong Higher Secondary School in Nongbareh. West Jaintia Hills District School Education Officer (DSEO) M Pde advised the managing committee as well as parents, teachers and the village to work together as a family in maintaining the new building and to teach the children values and discipline. Jeff Rani, Senior Monitoring Officer, PIU-1, DSEL (SHCDM), Shillong said that the infrastructural strength of the school will be further enhanced under the same project. “It’s up to you now as a school to look after the building,” said RD. Pakynteiñ, AEE PWD (Buildings), Shillong, Sub-Division II. Pakyntein said that even after the building has been handed-over, the department will continue to handle building-related problems if needed. The chairman of the Dorbar Shnong Nongbareh-Rim Young Pohlong expressed his gratitude to (L) Riang-i Pohlong for his efforts in bringing this grand scheme to fruition.
E-services issued in Ri Bhoi
NONGPOH: The Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi has informed that as per the instructions issued by the Information and Technology Department Government of Meghalaya, the office will roll out the additional three e-services in electronic form to citizens with from August 1. The three e-services will deal with the issuance of senior citizen certificate, registration of marriage certificate and registration of societies. The Deputy Commissioner also informed that the main objective of the e-services is to facilitate the citizen in availing different services provided by the office of the Deputy Commissioner. The DC has urged citizens to fill out their applications at common service centres (CSC), internet browsing centres and PFC at www.meghalaya.gov.in/megportal/edistrict. or www.megedistrict.gov.in. SMS messages will be sent to the applicants during processing till completion of the certificate.
Applications open for operation of JSPTS
JOWAI: The Executive Officer of the Jowai Municipal Board has informed that applications for the operation of Jowai Supplementary Public Transport Service (JSPTS) vans under the Municipal Board on annual contract basis are to be submitted to the Chief Executive Officer, Jowai Municipal Board on or before August 10. Interested self help groups (SHGs), organisations or individuals must send in their applications in plain paper. For further details interested parties can also contact Jowai Municipal Board.
Applications open for office suppliers in WJH
JOWAI: The West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner has informed that office suppliers within the district can send in their applications to the office of the Deputy Commissioner on or before August 20 before 3:00pm. The above mentioned is regarding the supply of office equipment to all District Heads of Offices for the year 2018-20. Sealed applications in plain paper are to be accompanied by a court fee stamp of Rs 25.
