SHILLONG: The resident doctors of the Department of Cardiology in NEIGRIHMS have petitioned the Institute over the alleged denial of fair examination process to final year DM Cardiology students (2015-2018) by the administration and dishonesty in addressing the bungling in the examination.
The petition said a meeting was held by senior resident doctors of the Department of Cardiology on the subject and the apathy of the Director of NEIGRIHMS in resolving the issues related to legitimate rights of the students to appear in their final examination on time and further silence and convenient amnesia on all the matters and issues raised during the meeting held on June 25.
The residents alleged that when the minutes of the meeting were circulated on June 28, the entire discussion was twisted and one sided and in the minutes of the meeting, the signatures of only the Director, Dean and Deputy Director (Administrator) were obtained and finalised.
“We have made the representations against the minutes of the meeting, but till date not a word of reply or regret has come from the administration,” the petition added.
The residents also said that that the second Annual Performance Report (2016-2017) of Residents of the final year were called only after June 25 from the Dean’s Office when the declared date of examination was already over and the third Annual Performance Report (2017-2018) is still not circulated from the Dean’s Office.
“It is also very surprising to see the letter from Prof. A J Patowary, Controller of Examination (NEIGRIHMS) stating that the date of examination has been fixed as per the clearance from NEHU, Shillong tentatively from October 26 to November 15.
We doubt whether the clearance from NEHU was obtained by NEIGRIHMS in consultation with the HoD Cardiology, and if that be the procedure of date of declaration of examination, then why clearance from NEHU was not obtained on the earlier occasions before declaring the date for the examination to the students,” the petition said.
The residents have also requested the administration of NEIGRIHMS to keep the Director of NEIGRIHMS away from all the affairs of DM Cardiology examination and render the responsibilities to NEHU or to the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to supervise the entire examination process so that it may be held in a free and fair manner.
The residents said that all their grievances raised in the meeting must be replied within 3 (three) days, failing which they may be forced to take a course of action which may be detrimental to their future.
“The allocation of quarters to resident doctors has not been taken care of till now despite of assurances from administration,” the memorandum added.
