Hill Farmers’ Union inspects vegetable market at Iewduh

SHILLONG: With growing objections from the farmers on “unwarranted” deduction of agricultural produce by buyers, the Hill Farmers’ Union (HFU) on Wednesday inspected the vegetable market at Iewduh.

Member of the HFU-led by its president Commander Shangpliang and general secretary, Allfondbirth Kharsyntiew while interacting with the farmers, who are selling their produces in Iewduh, was told that the buyer deducted around 8 to 10 kg from any vegetable produce that weighs  100 kg, which causes  huge loss to the farmer.

Speaking to reporters, Shangpliang said the union will approach the Deputy commissioner to hold a meeting between buyers and sellers (farmers) along with the Syiem of Hima Mylliem to come to a mutual understanding  and the solve this problem face by the farmers.
