SHILLONG: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to submit a report within four weeks on the Varanasi flyover collapse in May in which 19 persons died and 12 were grievously injured. The directive has followed a petition to NHRC by Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist Madan Mohan Priye who blamed “lapse in maintenance and supervision” for the tragedy. The NHRC directive to Uttar Pradesh was in the last week of July and the deadline is yet to be over.
