Vajpayee’s ashes to be immersed in Umshyrpi

SHILLONG: The Asthi Kalash, or the urn containing ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will be brought to Shillong on Thursday.
BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek said on Tuesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over the Asthi Kalash to all the BJP state presidents.
BJP’s Meghalaya chief Shibun Lyngdoh will receive the urn in New Delhi on Wednesday.
He will arrive at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Thursday. On the same day, party members in Nongpoh will pay homage and later in the evening, the Asthi Kalash will be installed in the BJP state party office.
The next day, party members will pay homage to the urn containing Vajpayee’s ashes at the party office and this will be followed by an all-faith prayer meet. Leaders like Nalin Kohli and Lyngdoh will pay homage in the evening.
The BJP Meghalaya will organise an Asthi Kalash Yatra from its office in the city.
According to Hek, the ashes will be immersed in the Umshyrpi river near Rilbong Dhobi Ghat on August 25.
