SHILLONG: The new AICC general secretary in-charge North East excluding Assam, Luizinho Faleiro, who is coming back to Meghalaya for the third time, has a difficult task ahead to revamp the party.
When contacted, Faleiro said over phone from Goa on Wednesday that he would meet the party leaders in the North East, including Meghalaya, to assess the ground reality.
He admitted the difficult task ahead to revamp the party in the context of the Congress losing power in all the northeastern states except Mizoram, which will go to the polls sometime in November.
Faleiro, who is the successor to CP Joshi, pointed out to the Arunachal Pradesh situation where the party lost almost all the MLAs. In Meghalaya, after the formation of a non-Congress government in 2008, Faleiro was instrumental in installing a Congress-led government in 2009.
When he was at the helm of affairs of the party in Meghalaya at various intervals, Faleiro had defended former chief minister Mukul Sangma though there were frequent demands for change of leadership.
