SHILLONG: NPP MLA from Jirang constituency Sosthenes Sohtun has urged the chief engineer of MeECL to address issues of connectivity, frequent deaths from electrocution and power cuts. In a letter to the chief engineer, Sohtun emphasised the need for revamping electrical sub-stations, which need urgent attention, to prevent loss of human lives. He also urged him to make a spot inspection. Sohtun said during his tour of the constituency, he found that several households in villages have not got electricity as promised by the state government. He pointed out that most of the transformers are overloaded which results in power cuts. Moreover, he said there are worn out wires, rusted and bent poles, which he observed are signs of accidents.
He referred to an incident at Lumnongrim, Byrnihat, in which a girl suffered burn injuries due to an unattended overhead electrical wire lying on the ground.
