SHILLONG: Anomalies in the appointment process for the post of junior engineer (Grade I) under the Public Works Department have come to the fore.
The examination for the post of Junior Engineer under the PWD (Roads and Building) department was conducted on January 20 and the interview was held from April 5 to 25. The results were declared on May 9. Out of 270 aspiring candidates, 79 were declared successful.
Several aspiring candidates, who had appeared for the post, alleged that the Chief Engineer (CE) PWD (roads) had shown undue favour to appoint Wandaphisha Thangkhiew (roll number 40) in the head office.
Several candidates also saw the CE accompanying her at the Shillong Civil Hospital while she was undergoing medical examination for the post.
According to the candidates, this indicates that the upcoming appointment is not being carried out in a fair manner and hence there is need to have a proper inquiry to safeguard the interest of other candidates as this casts doubts on the manner of appointment process.
When contacted, PWD Minister, Prestone Tynsong said the recruitment was done by Meghalaya Public Service Commission which is an autonomous body.
“Based on the recommendations by the MPSC, we have made the appointment,” he said.
