PM, NE leaders wish Conrad

SHILLONG: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Conrad Sangma on social media after the result of the South Tura by-poll was declared on Monday.
“Best wishes in your endeavours to take Meghalaya to new heights of growth,” Modi tweeted.
Congratulatory notes also came from leaders in the northeastern region, including senior BJP leader and Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“This is yet another reaffirmation of progressive policies of NDA led by Prime Minister Sri @narendramodi.#NEDA,” Sarma tweeted.
Sarma heads NEDA, the BJP-led alliance in the North East.
Chief ministers of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are among others who wished Conrad on his victory.
In a statement to the media, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said, “Your stunning victory is proof of the people’s belief in your leadership and I wish you all success as you steer the State of Meghalaya to greater development and prosperity. I look forward to working together with you on common issues that concern our respective states in particular and the northeastern region in general.” Pema Khandu termed the victory as “march towards new era of development under your energetic leadership”.
“A deserving win indeed,” tweeted Biren Singh.
The president of National People’s Party, Nagaland, and other leaders also congratulated Conrad. In a statement, the party unit secretary Ricky Ozukum said, “The party acknowledges and appreciates the sacrifice made by former Union Minister of State Agatha K Sangma who is also the Nagaland state in-charge, for vacating the South Tura constituency in the larger and best interest of the party and moreover the people of Meghalaya.”
