Pune City to play in AWES Cup
PUNE: Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Pune City would kick-off their pre-season preparations by participating in the second edition of the AWES Cup starting in Goa from Wednesday. In the last edition of the AWES Cup, FC Pune City reserves squad went up to semifinals before losing to Dempo Sports Club 1-0. But this time around, the club has decided to participate in the event with their entire squad. FC Pune City is placed along with Dempo SC, Salgaocar FC and FC Goa in Group A, a media release issued here said. (PTI)
Indo Intl Kabaddi league to kickstart soon
NEW DELHI: Kabaddi is all set to make waves across the country, as well as in foreign lands, with the Indo International Premier Kabaddi League getting to a start, soon. According to the New Kabaddi Federation of India (NKFI), organisor and one of the leading associations promoting Kabaddi, the League aims to take the Indian origin sport on the global level. The League will showcase a distinct format, having eight teams, who will play 62 matches, for over a month. (UNI)
Indian boxers shine at Youth World Championships
BUDAPEST: Eight of the Indian women pugilists entered the semi-finals of their respective categories at the ongoing AIBA Youth Women’s and Men’s World Championships here on Tuesday. Anamika, who started the Indian campaign in the morning, began with a fantastic win over her Italian rival Martina La Piano with a 4:1 verdict in the 51 kg class. She would be next taking on Thai opponent Kittiya Nampai, who won 5-0 against her South Korean rival. It was even better for Jony in 60kg who outclassed Chinese Chen Yibing with a 5:0 verdict. Jony will now meet Russian Nune Asatrian in the next round. (IANS)
