GUWAHATI:   India Navy divers who were deployed for tracing the Maruti Swift Dezire vehicle that had plunged into swelling Dikhow River in Sivasagar on Saturday night  with five of a family on board, failed to trace the vehicle after day-long operation on Tuesday.

The Indian Navy divers who were brought from Eastern Navy Command in Visakhapatnam, used side scan sonar  in a two kilometer areas in the river to locate the vehicle underneath but sans any success till the sun set.  The equipment had to be used as visibility in the river is zero while current is very strong in the river. They will resume search operation on Wednesday.

Earlier, NDRF, SDRF and Army deep water divers had failed to trace the car during two-day long operation on September 2 and 3.

Altogether 100 personnel of various agencies, including NDRF and SDRF, have already been pressed into the search operation.

The car of the ill-fated family of  Guwahati  resident Haren Bora had his mother, his wife and two teen-aged daughters in it when  the vehicle skidded off the river bank embankment into the river on Saturday night at Dechial  village in Sivasagar district.
