SHILLONG: SPARK, a local NGO that works with street children, celebrated its fifth foundation day as well as Teachers’ Day on Wednesday.
A statement from the organisation said Teachers’ Day was celebrated to acknowledge all those devoted teachers who are working hard to educate the distressed and under-privileged children. Rag pickers, domestic helps, child labourers, street children and slum-dwellers participated in the programme.
T Dkhar, Commissioner and Secretary of Social Welfare Department, SA Rynjah, SP (City), Mukesh Agarwal, CEO of Barak Valley Cements Limited and Vikram Singhania, chairperson, Round Table India, were among the guests.
“The objective of the programme was to provide a platform to these target children to show their admiration towards their teachers and to express their gratitude to teachers for their dedication, hard work and their selfless services to underprivileged children. Also, providing them an opportunity to display their various talents through stage performance,” the statement said.
There was also a special performance by the Elderly People from Mercy Home Old Age Home.
