CRS inspection of Bogibeel bridge likely in October

GUWAHATI: The Bogibeel bridge over Brahmaputra River , the longest rail-cum-road bridge in the country,  will be ready for inspection by Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) by 2nd week of October. This was informed to the Chairman, Railway Board (CRB), Ashwini Lohani in a review meeting held through video-conferencing on Tuesday afternoon.

All the general managers of zonal railways of Indian Railway were connected through video-link in the meeting where the CRB reviewed progress of construction of new lines, gauge conversion and doubling of railway lines, Track renewal, railway electrification and elimination of unmanned railway level crossings of the entire Indian Railway, an official source informed.

It was revealed in the meeting that in the whole country, a total of 4000 km of gauge conversion work and 5000 km of track renewal would be completed within this financial year. The N. F. Railway has targeted for track renewal of 288 km of broad gauge line. Apart from this, 192 km of gauge conversion and commissioning of 95km of new broad gauge line will be done within this financial year, said the General Manager, N. F. Railway Sanjeev Roy. He also said that there was only one unmanned level crossing (UMLC) left to be eliminated in N. F. Railway which would soon be eliminated.

In case of railway electrification, a total of 298 km of railway lines would be electrified this year. Out of these 198km will be done by Central Organisation of Railway Electrification (CORE) and 100km will be done by Rail Vikash Nigam Limited (RVNL). The General Manager informed that the Katihar – Kumedpur – Mukuria section was almost ready, Gunjeria – New Jalpaiguri section would be ready for commissioning by December and New Jalpaiguri – Raninagar Jalpaiguri section would be ready by January 2019.
