Sangeet Natak Akademi fest in Shillong from Sept 14

SHILLONG: Sangeet Natak Akademi will organise the festival of music, dance and drama featuring the recipients of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2017 from September 14-18 at U Soso Tham Auditorium.

Addressing reporters on Thursday, chairman of the Akedemi, Shekhar Sen said that the Akademi has selected 34 (which include 2 joint awards) artistes of India who have made a mark as young talents in their respective fields of performing arts for Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, 2017.

The Yuva Puraskar will be presented at a special ceremony, to be presided over by Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy.

Sen urged the artistes from the state to witness the festival to get an exposure to the music, dance and drama from other parts of India.

“Seeing the artistes perform will give the local artistes motivation,” he said adding that the local artistes in the state will also become aware of the activities of the Akademi.

Secretary of the Akademi, Rita Swami Choudhary said, “Cultural mapping will be done at the programme also in which people can give the data about the local artistes. The names will go to the national inventory.”

The festival will witness performances from the recipients of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2017 who have excelled in the field of music, dance, theater, traditional/folk/tribal dance/music/ theater and puppetry.
