SHILLONG:  The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) central executive committee (CEC) will organise a sit-in demonstration on September 19 from 11 am to 3 pm at Additional Secretariat Parking lot to protest against the death of Tyngshain Mukhim.

It may be mentioned that Mukhim died following assault by Romesh Thapa of Umsohphoh, Madan Umwang, at around 10 pm on September 9 following a scuffle at Umsohphoh village under Block-II in the Ri Bhoi border area.

As a result, the victim sustained grievous injuries and was shifted to NEIGRIHMS and later his relatives took him back to Khlieh Umwang. However, on Tuesday, the victim succumbed to his injuries, three days after the assault.

The union also expressed anger and unhappiness over the recent incidents in the border areas of Ri-Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills

“These incidents included the arrest of Waheh Chnong of Block I and the destruction of homes in West Khasi Hills as well as the house belonging to Shadalin Lyngdoh in Ri-Bhoi. The Assam police also destroyed a school in Khlieh Umwang,” the statement from the union said.
