Students debate ‘one nation, one poll’

SHILLONG: Students from various educational institutions debated the raging issue of ‘one nation, one poll’ with St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School winning the prestigious 21st Dr M M Das Memorial Inter College/Inter School Debate Competition organised by the Zenith Jubelieth Club in the city on Saturday. The motion for the oldest running debate competition in the city this year was “One nation, one poll seems to be a step in the right direction”.which generated interesting arguments and counter arguments from the young debaters.
Altogether eight teams from as many as different educational institutions took part in the debate competition, which was moderated by renowned academician Abhijit Choudhury in the speaker’s chair.
After a marathon session of debating, the speaker put the motion for vote before the house, which defeated it with an overwhelming majority.
