USTM to host national workshop on radiochemistry
GUWAHATI: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) in collaboration with Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and allied Scientists (IANCAS) from Radiochemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Bombay is organising a six-day national workshop on ‘Radiochemistry and Applications of Radioisotopes’ from 1st to 6th October next at the university campus, according to a press release. The workshop, sponsored by Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai will provide an excellent platform for the participants for mutual interactions with the eminent scientists mostly from BARC and also from other premier institutes of the country which will help them update their knowledge with their latest developments in the field of Radiochemistry and Radioisotopes. The workshop will cover different aspects of nuclear physics and chemistry with emphasis on radioisotopes and its applications in healthcare, industry, agriculture, food and research. Scholars, faculty members belonging to chemistry, physics, biosciences, health sciences, and environmental sciences including radiologists and scientific officers engaged in radiology departments of medical colleges and hospitals can join the workshop and apply via mail to [email protected].
CISF nabs two for carrying gold bars at Imphal Airport
New Delhi: The Central Industrial Security Force on Tuesday nabbed two passengers at Imphal airport carrying seven gold bars concealed in their body cavity. According to CISF, around 1500 hrs on September 18 at Security Hold Area (SHA) of Imphal Airport, a CISF personnel noticed presence of metal in body (rectum area) of two passengers. The passengers identified as Madan Mohan and Vijay Sharma, resident of Haryana, were supposed to travel from Imphal to Delhi by Air India flight. On suspicion, both were taken for thorough checking at separate place. During enquiry, they revealed that they were carrying gold bars inside their body cavity (rectum). Thereafter, four gold bars from Madan Mohan and three from Vijay Sharma, weighing about 1160 gms and worth approximate 34 lakh, were recovered from their possession. “The Custom officials of Imphal Airport were informed and both the apprehended passengers along-with recovered gold bars were handed over to custom officials, Imphal Airport for further legal action”, the CISF said in a statement.
