GUWAHATI:Those who are looking forward to escape the maddening atmosphere in urban areas during the forthcoming Durga Puja, may get a chance to enjoy a sojourn at the enchanting natural ambience of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) subject to favourable weather condition sans any further rainfall.
Authorities in the national park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are weighing the option to throw open the park for tourists during Durga Puja festival like previous years hoping that the weather god favours their wishes.
However, honorary Wildlife Warden of Kaziranga, Uttam Saikis while talking to The Shillong Times observed that it would be prudent to open the park on an earlier date than the actual tourists season that begins from November 1, only when the authorities could repair roads , bridges and other infrastructure within the park since they got damaged recently due to incessant rainfall.
However, the final decision whether to open the park for tourists during Durga Puja will be taken by the Chief Wildlife Warden of the state weighing all the pros and cons, a source in the National Park said.
