SHILLONG: The Inner Wheel Club of Shillong presented sanitary vending machines to Laitumkhrah Bengalee School and Buddha Vidya Niketan School in the city on Friday.
Menstrual health and hygiene, especially of teenagers, is a nationwide concern and the Centre recently exempted sanitary napkins from GST after several protests by women’s groups.
The club also presented the Nation Builders Award to six teachers from city schools and celebrated World Literacy Day at Raj Bhavan.
Addressing the programme, First Lady of the state, Anuradha Roy said, “Teachers mould fresh young minds that will grow up to be nation builders.”
