Forest officials raid illegal mines in WJH

JOWAI: Forest officials of West Jaintia Hills conducted raid over illegal mining in West Jaintia Hills under Amlarem Sub-Division.
The forest officials along with officials of the Pollution Control Board jointly raided the illegal limestone mining in Amlarem Sub-Division and according to sources the same will continue in the next few days.
Top officials of the forest department who spoke anonymously informed that the raid was conducted after complaints were received that some people are practicing illegal mining in the area.
“I have applied for a forest and mining clearance, but those who don’t have any clearance are also mining freely so, we have to lodge a complaint”, said a miner.
“We are paying lakhs in order to obtain the license, but these people are taking the same of some license holder to mine illegally”, he added.
The miners requested the state government to properly check such illegal activities so that no lost is being incurred in term of state revenue.
