SHILLONG: Congress MLA Azad Zaman brought to the notice of the Assembly that the Rajabala Police Outpost used to get submerged in water during floods.
During the question hour, Zaman stressed the need of upgrading the police out post into a police station, by stating that crime rate is huge in the area.
However, in his reply, Home Minister James Sangma said crime rate has decreased in the area as total number of crime rates in the year 2013 was 19 compared to 17 in the year 2014, which lower compare to the previous year.
There were 15 crime related incidents in 2015, 16 in 2016 and 17 in the year 2017.
Sangma said there is no proposal to upgrade the Rajabala police outpost into a police station.
However, raising a supplementary question, Zaman said since the area is flood affected, infrastructure should be upgraded.
In response, the home minister said depending on the availability of funds, the infrastructure development can be done.
Replying to a supplementary query by Congress MLA Dikkanchi Shira on man-power at the police outpost, Sangma said the strength is one Sub-Inspector and two constables and there is no head constable.
However, the actual strength is two Sub-Inspectors, one head constable and four constables.
