SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, in his reply to unstarred question in the Assembly said that only one case of illegal coal mining has been detected in 2015 since the imposition of the ban on illegal coal mining by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
The total number of trucks seized in relation with the cases till date is only 2 numbers.
Sangma said that fine is imposed against individuals who were arrested and the amount of fine/penalty realized from individuals arrested is Rs 5 lakh in 2015.
It may be mentioned that there are regular reports from the police and some NGOs about the many cases of violation of NGT order which contradict the stand of the government.
