6 railway staff awarded for exemplary devotion towards duty

GUWAHATI: Six railway staff namely Sindhu Deka, track maintainer Rangapara North under Rangiya Division, Haren Gogoi, gateman, Dibrugarh, under Tinsukia division, Abhi Ram Rai, track maintainer under Katihar Division, Kharag Nath Rajbhor, track maintainer under Katihar division, Indrajit Roy, driver under Alipurduar Division, Amit Kumar Das, Station Master,  Sudhani station under Katihar Division, were awarded by Sanjive Roy, General Manager, NF Railway for showing exceptional devotion towards duty.

Haren Gogoi, gateman while performing duty as gateman at LC gate No-DD/10 near Dibrugarh station on August 10 some miscreants forced and manhandled him to open the gate in the face of an approaching train at about 03.10 AM. But he faced them fearlessly and prevented unusual occurrence.

Sindhu Deka, track maintainer while performing gate duty on August 11 at level crossing gate no RM-50 at KM 91/3-4 between Majbat – Dhekiajuli Road stations showed his alertness and promptness by closing the gate in front of the approaching train no-15816 as on duty Station Master failed to inform him about the said train. A probable mishap was thus averted due to alertness.

Abhi Ram Rai and Kharag Nath Rajbhor both track maintainers under Katihar Division while performing track patrolling duty at 00.45 hrs detected rail fracture at KM 134/3-2 between Barsoi – Sudhani Up line and immediately protected the track and informed to their in-charge and concerned control room. For their alertness an accident was averted.

Indrajit Roy while working train no 07526 on August 18 between Bagrakot – Sevok section saw an elephant on track. He immediately applied emergency brake and managed to stop the train and saved the elephant.  Thus a probable mishap was averted due to alertness.

Amit Kumar Das, Station Master of Sudhani station while performing duty he noticed unusual sound in front brake van of an up goods train. He immediately informed all concerned and the train was controlled at Telta station. After joint checking flat tyre was detected and the affected wagon was detached. For his alertness accident was averted.

In recognition of their meritorious service for preventing accident all of them were awarded with a cash award of Rs. 2, 500 (Rupees two thousand five hundred only) each along with a certificate by General Manager, NF Railway.
