NGO to start organic farmers’ market

JOWAI: The Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) along with the support from National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and North East Slow Food and Agro Biodiversity Society (NESFAS) will start an organic farmers’ market.
The secretary of SURE H.H Mohrmen informed this at the training programme held at Moosawkhi village, West Jaintia Hills.
The Horticulture Officer, B.M Majaw has urged the people to go for organic farming as it is a healthy and traditional practice since time immemorial. The programme was organised by the Sein Ki Nongrep SHG, Moosakhia and sponsored by the District Planning Officer.
The officials have also asked the farmers to adopt organic farming and to avoid using chemical fertilizers as it affects people’s health and the environment.
The District Development Manager, NABARD, NG Kharlukhi said that use of chemical fertilizers is affecting the health of people and destroying the environment.
