Meghalaya defeat Manipur in Vijay Hazare Trophy

GUWAHATI: Meghalaya defeated Manipur by 68 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate group-round XI match played at Gujarat on Saturday.

Put to bat by Manipur, Meghalaya piled up 238 runs in the allotted 50 overs losing 5 wickets. Yogesh was the top scorer with an unbeaten 67 runs (79 balls) followed by in form batsman, Punit Bisht scoring yet another half century, with an elegant 58 runs (57 balls). They were supported by Babloo Passah who played a patient 37 runs (74 balls) and all rounder Gurinder who chipped in with 36 runs(57 balls).

Jitender claimed three wickets for Manipur.

In reply Manipur was bundled out for 170 runs in 45.4 overs. The highlight of the innings was an unbeaten 106 (108 balls) by while none else reached double figures. Lakhan Singh who has been a consistent performer for Meghalaya, claimed three wickets at an economy rate of 3.13 while Gurinder and Mark claimed two wickets each.

In the last round XII match of plate group, Meghalaya will take on Puducherry on Monday.

Vinoo Mankad Trophy

Meghalaya defeated Mizoram by seven wickets In the first match of the under-19 age category Vinoo Mankad Trophy played in Odisha on Saturday.

Mizoram, put to bat, were bowled out for 112 runs in 37 overs with Debajyoti top scoring with 36 runs(67 balls). All rounder Md Ashif claimed three wickets while Aryan, Swastic and Abhisekh claimed two wickets each.

In reply, Meghalaya started shakily, losing both the openers early, but the third wicket partnership steadied the innings. A cameo by Md Ashif who remained unbeaten with 28 runs (36 balls) and Raghav who made 27 not out (42 balls), helped the team cruise to 113 runs for the loss of three wickets in 23.4 overs.

Meghalaya will clash with Nagaland on Sunday.
