SHILLONG: While just a week left for Durga puja, shoppers are yet to pick up the pace with most shopkeepers in the city lamenting on the fact that this year’s sales are quite low compared to the previous year.
B Mordani, owner of the Mohni store said that sales are quite down even though the weekend was quite good and expressed hope that the market would show some improvement in the coming week.
Echoing similar views, the store manager of Planet Avenues showroom Ankit Jain said that online shopping has also affected their sales as online companies are offering massive discounts on various products.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said that rules have been laid out regarding safety measures, pollution control and other relevant issues to all puja pandals and institutions.
