SHILLONG: The rampant transfer of officers by the government has come under scanner of the opposition Congress which is getting vocal after an officer from Jowai was immediately transferred after a minister had threatened him “with necessary action.”
Congress spokesperson, HM Shangpliang referred to the immediate transfer of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jowai, S. Laloo. He said, “It has been reported that Sammy Laloo was threatened, he was rebuked by the brother of a minister using dirty words and slangs.”
“The minister threatened the officer that necessary action would be taken against him for not complying with certain requests made by the minister and his brother. In the same evening, the officer has been transferred from Jowai to Ampati,” he added.
Questioning what message the government wants to send by such rampant transfer of officers, he maintained that governance would crumble as officers would be demoralised in such situations.
When asked to reveal the name of the minister, Shangpliang told reporters, “It is better you find out.”
It may be mentioned that CLP leader, Mukul Sangma wrote to the government on the rampant transfer of police officers recently.
Despite the concern raised by Sangma, Shangpliang alleged that till date transfer orders were being issued at the whims and fancies of the government.
He argued that the rampant transfer of officers had disturbed the continuity and functioning of the governance.
“The government should stop transferring officers at random or on political reasons. This is not good,” he said.
“In the process, we are losing officers in this manner. Many IAS officers have left the state and gone to Delhi and other places in the six months’ time,” he said.
Asserting that MCS officers are being “victimized” due to the transfer orders or “in the form of marching orders”, he expressed disappointment of the rampant transfer of senior government officers.
“We are shocked to hear that even in Jaintia Hills, even a peon, a gram sevak and a school teacher have been transferred outside the district,” he added.
Suggesting the state government, he said the government should contain itself to bring about conducive atmosphere to work for all government servants from the lowest to the highest rank.
He viewed that governance would suffer and the people would be the ultimate sufferers.
