Talking to media persons here on Friday, General Administration Department (GAD) Minister, Cominone Ymbon said that apart from Bangalore, Department had a plan to open one more state house in Guwahati.
The Minister said that the price of the land was every expensive in Bangalore and the department this year had been allotted insufficient funds and hence there were fund constrains as well.
“ We want to open the new Meghalaya House in Khanapara and we will be happy if we can get a land in Meghalaya side itself,” he said while adding that he has already asked his officers to search a plot of land in the area.
The idea of a new Meghalaya House came up as the present Meghalaya House in Rehabari, Guwahati is small and congested
Earlier, even the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) of Bangalore Unit, had submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, asking for a Meghalaya House in the metropolitan city since the city of Bengaluru is a favourite destination for students, entrepreneurs, tourists, job-seekers, etc. from the state of Meghalaya.
When asked about the shortage of rooms in all Meghalaya Houses, the Minister said once the funds were allotted, the department would construct new state houses in such a way that those could accommodate many people from the state
At present, many people are denied rooms in the Meghalaya Houses owing to the shortage of rooms and they are mostly ask to stay in dormitories in the Meghalaya Houses and people mostly have to approach their MLAs and Ministers to get an accommodation in these houses.
Currently, there are two Meghalaya Houses in Kolkata and New Delhi, one each in Mumbai, Vellore and Guwahati.
