SHILLONG: Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School, Sangshong which started with a single student and presently has enrollment of 295 students including 39 Persons with disabilities (PWDs), celebrated its journey of 10 years on Tuesday.
The Institution, the first of this kind in the entire West Khasi Hills, was established by KJP Synod Sepngi in 2008.
The first batch from the school appeared for SSLC examination in 2018 and secured 100% pass percentage with all four students clearing the hurdle in second division.
Speaking on the occasion, local MLA and Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh, congratulated the school for its fruitful ten years journey despite many obstacles. He lauded the effort of KJP Synod Sepngi, in identifying Mairang as the place to set up this inclusive school.
He assured that with the implementation of the state education policy, system of education in Meghalaya would benefit immensely. He calls upon parents, teachers and others to work together for the betterment of children and people with disability.
Others present during the celebration were Pastor from KJP Synod Sepngi, officers from Mairang Civil Sub-Division, Sordar and Parents. Performances of songs and dance by the students were part of the celebration.
During the function, the minister also inaugurated the approach road to the school campus and also released the school souvenir.
One of the units under Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School is a day school from Nursery to Class X and Pre Vocational Training Unit I, II & III. The school has an Out Patient Department (OPD)/Home Management Unit.
